Team provides a safer and less costly alternative method.
Mammoet has announced the award of a major steel catenary riser (SCR) and umbilical pull-in contract by Subsea 7. The scope of work included in this contract is for engineering, procurement, fabrication and offshore pull-in operations.
The contracted offshore SCR and umbilical pull-in operations will be performed at Mississippi Canyon (MC), on an existing production facility located south of New Orleans, LA in approximately 1,900m of water. Mammoet will utilize its global expertise in heavy lifting to provide Subsea 7 and its client with a unique and lightweight equipment solution to pull dynamic loads topping 335t (approximately 740,000 lbs.).
Mammoet is pulling from the extensive knowledge and experience gained through lifting some of the world’s heaviest oil and gas assets to develop a safer and less costly process for performing high-load riser and umbilical pull-in operations. Although Mammoet has the capabilities to offer 800t socket passing linear winches or 500t chain jacking systems, the solution offered for this project has the ability to alter how high-load SCR pull-in operations could be performed moving forward.
“Being awarded this project by Subsea 7 demonstrates the depth of knowledge and competencies held by the team within Mammoet’s offshore services team,” says Heath Jones, Mammoet’s VP Sales (Offshore).
“The challenge that we were presented with was to deliver solutions that would truly offer tangible benefits to every part of the project where we were involved, and we did just that. We look forward to the successful execution of this project and continuing to offer better solutions to the global oil and gas industry. Smarter, Safer, Stronger is what we say, and it’s undoubtedly what we deliver.”
The project engineering, procurement, and fabrication phases have been underway and are nearing completion. Offshore mobilization activities are scheduled to begin in November 2020 and with operations being completed before the end of the year.
